Life’s Cycle

We rode side by side in silence lost in thought

Happy in companionable silence

Our love was new in that early carefree time

When you looked at me and saw perfection

And I looked at you in adoration

The years unfolded bringing joy and heartache

At times it seemed in equal measure

We rode out less as our children came

And interrupted our treasured togetherness

We argued and fought like any married couple

Until we found our new direction and grew close again

The same but stronger

Now too old to ride, our cycles gather dust and hold

Our memories

      • Well I didn’t actually sort it… akismet/Wordpress did that and I think the problem’s been properly identified now and measures taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I just campaigned a bit. 🙂

    • Thank you kz so pleased you like it. I was thinking about wheels turning, that made me think of life and it just went from there. It’s great how the FFs are inspired to write so many different things from one photo. I love it.
      Take care 🙂

    • Hi Janet – funny but was thinking of the old song “bicycle made for two” and although this obviously isn’t a tandem the idea set me off on this track.
Hope you are all well, any news on the house ?

    • Hi Penny – thank you for your kind comments. I’m glad you liked it, was never sure that poetry was my thing, even though I love reading it, but it seemed to fit this time

  2. Dear Dee,

I thought I’d made a comment earlier from my phone. Doesn’t look like it made it here so I’ll say it again. Had WordPress provided a “love” icon I would’ve clicked it. Beautiful poem.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Dear Rochelle
I know what you mean – it happens to me quite a lot. It is so handy to use your phone when otherwise engaged, but I always check back now to make sure my comment is where it should be.
A lovely comment, thank you so much. I am aiming to get over and read the other FFs later today/tomorrow morning.
      Have an enjoyable weekend

  3. Ooooooohhhhhh Dee I loved this poem. A great idea to write about the cycle of life and love and it is so true (I realise as I grow older) these changes and transitions occur naturally as our lives ebb and flow with the tides.
    Touched by the end line;

Now too old to ride, our cycles gather dust and hold

    Our memories

If I could like it a million times I would.
    Kudos.

    A fellow poet! 🙂

    • Oh wow, thank you so much.
The changes in life may not always be what we want, but it’s how we handle them that makes us who we are.
Thank you for reading and I’m so pleased you liked my poem.
      Have a great weekend

  4. Isn’t that brand new love wonderful? Not as good as a love tempered by time and experience, but like the thoughts of youth, not one to be recaptured. Loved your Poem, Dee

    • Hi Mary – yes new love is such a wonderful feeling, but its what happens next, when that heady, breathless, can-take-on-the-world feeling fades that really matters. Thank you for reading, so pleased you enjoyed my poem
      Have a great weekend
