I haven’t posted anything for quite a while now. I used to love writing, especially Friday Fictioneers which I joined in 2012. My first post was “Shrouded” and I loved the challenge of writing a story with a begining, a middle and an end in 100 words. Since then my world, along with lots of other peoples’ has changed in a way I really couldn’t have imagined back in 2012.
My husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. We were both distraught at the time, but I was pleased to finally have a diagnosis as we knew something had been wrong for a very long time.
After the diagnosis, we were given a prescription for medication, that isn’t a cure, but may help delay the progress of the illness and a few booklets about Alzheimer’s and the other different forms of dementia.
Then we were left alone to cope with this dreadful, heartbreaking illness.
When our GP surgery made an appointment for a review a year after the diagnosis, I was shocked to be listed as his carer. I truly hadn’t thought about it, but that is now how I am regarded by them.
Another year on and caring is exhausting and overwhelming.
The amount of planning and organising that goes into everyday life now is unbelievable.
Sadly I don’t write much anymore, too many interruptions, but one day …
