Weekly photo challenge – Hope

Hope is a very powerful thing.  Without it, life for some is almost not worth living.  I have been very lucky to have been able  to travel a great deal, quite often on business but mainly for pleasure. Each time I have visited New York, if I have had time, I have joined one of the many boat trips that take tourists out to see  Ellis Island and an up-close look at the Statue of Liberty.

Each time I see Liberty standing guard as she appears to do, I think of the many millions of people, weary and scared as they neared the end of their long journey, seeing her for the first time.  Some refugees, fleeing from persecution;  some emigrants, escaping extreme poverty and hardship and I think of the hope she must have given them, as they sought a new life for themselves and their families.

I posted a photo of a view across the lake in Jasper, in a recent weekly photo challenge. As I looked through the photos from that visit, I remembered the beauty that surrounded us everywhere we went on that holiday and some of the great sights that we had seen and I thought I’d share some of them here. Hope you like them as much as we did.

Weekly photo challenge Winter…… and a Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone, I wish you health and happiness for 2012

At the moment here in Wales, we have a mixture of sleet and hail, it’s bouncing off the hearth as I type, but thankfully no snow as yet. I intended to go out and take photos for the ‘Winter’ photo challenge, but everywhere looks so  drab and miserable I just couldn’t bring myself to take any.  So I decided to post these from 2011 as they say “Winter” but they are not dull and drab.
